This is a bad news good news kind of a day. The bad news is dues are going up by $15.00, $5.00 for National, $5.00 for Department of Washington, and $5.00 for Post 209. Inflation over time is the reason. Dues have been $40.00 for more than 14 years and had to go up. To put that in perspective in the year 2000 a gallon of gas was $1.26 and a dozen eggs was 89 cents.
The good news is the dues increase will not take effect until one minute past midnight on December 31, 2015. At that time dues for Post 209 will be $55.00 for those members renewing for 2015. 2016 dues due in July 2016 will be $55.00. Because all 2015 dues must be received by National and the Department for Washington by December 31, Post 209 will not accept 2015 dues after December 15, 2015. That holidays are the cause. Please renew for 2015 before the cutoff of December 15, 2015.
One way to avoid future dues increases is to become a paid up for life member. Right now there is a good deal on PUFL memberships. See the Adjutant if you are interested.
Please understand that your E Board was reluctant to raise Post 209 dues, but it had to be done to help insure the life of the Post. There are many advantages to Legion membership. Discounts from motels and car rentals are two of the many monetary reasons. The main reason however is for the protection of veterans rights. Each of our members can be very proud of the fact that we are the main riving force to protect and increase veterans rights and benefits.
